Xylozela is inspired by the music of post-punk UK band The Specials, one of Stephen's favourites when he was young.
In Punkit style we have deconstructed the notes of the tuned percussion instrument, the Marimba, which is similar to the wooden xylophone.
They are grouped into 6 sets of notes, held and played by hand. The parts share a tightly organised and strict rhythmic pattern. The musical contrast comes in the distinctive and uncontrollable chaos of the vuvuzela - it's a rogue force that tries to break up the order of the xylo parts.
Stephen and Joby will teach you XYLOZELA during one of your sessions with them.
